I
am delighted to have obtained these two, double-disc sets showcasing
Neil's last two shows at Earls Court, London - the end of the
UK Tour of 2002. They are a high quality recording made by an
audience member and apparently recorded in digital stereo. The
shows have many highlights including The Boat That I Row, If
You Know What I Mean, I Haven't Played This Song In Years, Star
Flight/Band Intro, Captain Sunshine, Holly Holy, Yes I Will/Lady
Magdalene, He Ain't Heavy, I Am...I Said and on to the finale
of Brother Love's Travelling Salvation Show. |

| EARLS
COURT, LONDON - 28 JUNE 1984
(Click

| |
| |
| This
ain't available in the shops! It's a high quality double CD
set running in total for just over 153 minutes and contains
the complete show of the last night in London, of a six night
engagement. This was the first time Neil had toured the UK/Europe
since his triumphant Woburn Abbey concert in July 1977 - us
Brits had waited patiently for seven years for Neil to return
and we were not disappointed! I was actually present at this
concert, having also attended on the 23rd and the 25th June.
Neil was in quite "chatty" mood as he dialogued with
the audience throughout and the Band Introductions, interspersed
with stories from Neil, lasted around 17 minutes! The opener,
"America", included the "cannon shots" and
"flash pots" at it's conclusion, Neil sang the new
title track from "Primitive" which was due to be released
the following week and Forever In Blue Jeans was performed a
rather excessive FIVE times (totalling around 16 minutes
in all) - personally I would rather have heard it just the once
(especailly as it is one of my least favourite of Neil's songs)
allowing more time for Neil to play three more different/additional
songs from his back catalogue instead. I guess he can't please
us all, all of the time! Nevertheless, it was a great stand
at Earls Court and I shall remember it always as it was my first
time seeing Neil live, after a long wait since his previous
visit! |

LIVE
IN CONCERT (READERS DIGEST)
(Click

|

|
This
legitimate triple disc set is not that unusual or rare an item
as it is available via mail order, originally direct from Readers
Digest and more recently through Heartland Music, although it
is not available in stores, as far as I am aware. However, it
is still noteable that many Neil Diamond fans do not have this
collection and indeed, many are unaware of it's existence! Originally
released in 1997, it has a total of 63 live tracks spanning
3 discs and includes quite numerous peviously unreleased tracks
not available on any other release - if only there were more
of them! Other tracks are taken from "Love At The Greek",
"Hot August Night II", "Greatest Hits 1966-1992",
and "Live In America". There is one "new"
recording, "Girl You'll Be A Woman Soon", recorded
in St Louis on the 1996 Tour. Disc 2 is probably the most interesting
with the most unreleased material including several Jazz Singer
songs. Some of the tracks on this collection were recorded at
the Forum, Los Angeles in 1983 and were due to be on the "Live
at The Forum" album which never got released. All Neil
Diamond fans ought to have this triple disc set in their collection
- if only for the previously unreleased material! |

Neil
Diamond Live In Scotland - Recorded In Concert at the SECC,
Glasgow
(10 July 2002)
An analogue audience recording of one of Neil's highly rated
Glasgow shows - the
newspaper critics gave rave reviews! The set list is identical
to the second
Lansdowne Road, Dublin concert
- there are no "surprises" or rarely heard songs
performed, although Neil does do a reprise of I'm A Believer
as well as Sweet
Caroline. What comes through on this recording is that Neil
and the Scottish
audience are definitely having a good time.
